Some TMI TTC questions

Hi my friends in the computer. I am looking for some advise from those in the know.

I have always had really long cycles. When I was an athletic high schooler, I thought 60 day cycles were great (although at times stressful).

When I got pregnant with Serenity, I was fairly regular for some reason, at about 35 days. I subscribe to the belief that women grouped together share hormonal signals and get 'in sync'. I once asked an OB about this and she gave me the hairiest eyeball, but hey, I had three college roomies and, when I got pregnant with Serenity, two women officemates. And I know my cycle doesn't follow the 'law' if left to its own devices.

So, after the miscarriage last fall, I wanted to have two or three regular cycles. I haven't really got that yet. My cycles are about 40 days. I have been temping each morning, and my temp doesn't increase.

I called my MFM office this week, and they don't do anything with helping you to get pregnant. I don't think I have a problem with that, we are preventing that right now, and that's not actually what I wanted help with. But, after the miscarriage, the MFM told us to come in "right after a positive pregnancy test" and we would test progesterone and do progesterone supplementation.

So here's the gist of my question:

1. Let's say I am ovulating, but my temps aren't shifting. (I think that is a progesterone nonresponse). Is it 'safe' to conceive, or is that new blastocyst doomed. I am concerned about the lag time between conception and POAS +. (The miscarriage was scanned at 5-6 weeks and confirmed failed at 7 weeks - pretty early)

The MFM office told me to go to a fertility specialist. But I don't have a documented problem with conceiving. And I don't really want to go to another doctor.

Anyway, any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. If anyone is super gung ho on helping me, I IM on FB, skype or gmail. We can exchange IDs, email me at aksvlpstl at yahoo.

TGIS*

*Thank goodness it's spring.

Yeehaw.

Last week I logged in about 40 hours outdoors. If I don't start getting some freelance business, there won't be any grass left in our yard. I dug and extended multiple garden beds around the property. Our back yard is about 35' x 20'. The grass is now less than half that. When Triple S came home the one night, he looked at me - and oh so seriously- told me that I had more than doubled my gardening space. Gee, I had - and I was/am sooooooo happy.

I paid a landscaper to remove the 5 shrubs from the front of my house. Watch out neighbors, here come my veggies! (That's what V stands for, right, not victory???)

I've got cool season greens, radishes, etc seeded into the ground, some cabbage starts in the front of the house, and perennials like lovage coming up.

I start most of my herbs and veggies from seed, down in my basement. The only reason my neighbor don't think that I grow pot is because I give them tomatoes plants each spring. In the evening, our basement windows glow eerily, as if our house is really a space ship in disguise and it is about to take off. This year, I've got about a dozen tomato varieties, eggplant, peppers, herbs, Gerbera daisies, and some other stuff. I hope to sell some of the plants this year, in an attempt to recoup some of my costs.

I've given up worrying about getting work. This whole global economic depression is a wee bit bigger than me - me not working enough or trying hard enough or advertising enough. So, I garden. It's keeping me busy and in theory I am supposed to be getting exercise. I sure feel it, although my weight hasn't changed. Triple S tells me I am building muscle. Ain't he sweet?

I am happy with my activity level lately. Yoga, circuit training, gardening, hiking with Triple S and the mutt and biking. Ok FAT, do you need a written eviction notice or something?

Garden pics forthcoming. Maybe.

Fictional Escapes

Well, apparently even vampires can have babies with beating hearts. Gah.

Eye Color Meme

I am finally getting around to posting my eye color. This was first posted so long ago that I don't remember who I first saw post it.

I guess my eyes are green. I usually call them hazel. Today they look less mucky hazel and more green. The pic was snapped in the sun using my laptop's camera.

We don't know what color Serenity's eyes were. I deeply regret that, along with not knowing whether her ear lobes connected to her jawline or not. Triple S and I differ in eye color and ear lobe attachment. However, I am sure her eyes would have been brown, as I doubt that Triple S' Asian heritage has any blue eye color genes lurking in it's background.

If you haven't posted a pic of your peepers yet, I'd like to see one (or two).

Africa and AIDS

Triple S and I watched the Zulu-language movie "Yesterday" tonight (yes, we sure know how to pick happy movies).

The movie is about a a mother who finds out that she has HIV. I searched on the internet to find out some more info, and found the Avert site.

I knew that AIDS has been ravaging many sub-Saharan countries since the 90s, a situation made worse by political turmoil and even outright refusal to promote the use of condoms and education. From the website's front page:

"More than eleven million children have been orphaned by AIDS."

This is terrible. Unacceptable.

For those of you considering adoption, perhaps this is a continent to look into. 11 million children need family. I will surely keep it in my mind.

On Monk and the Present Moment

We are not DVRing Monk anymore. I can't stand his pathetic, self-centeredness.

His wife died. Neither the reason nor the killer have never been discovered. He doesn't know why.

But he also hasn't accepted life. He isn't living in the present.

The last episode I watched, I had enough.

I am not where 'he' is.
My husband and I have figured out how to be healthy, how to live, after our baby girl died, even though we don't know why or how.

My husband says, of course, it's supposed to be funny. But I don't find it funny. A man that ill is not funny. A man so hurt that he is living in the past and in his own world of dysfunction is not entertainment.

I try to live in the present. I try to focus on my breath. I try to sit straight. Monk was bringing me down.

Argh Update

Triple S' coworker brought her newborn to work last week. Triple S managed to disappear to the microscope room. But, when I saw him at home later that day (and the next), his eyes said it all.

Triple S' cousin has delivered a little baby girl.

We don't feel the 'right' way about it. And, thus, we feel badly about feeling 'wrong' about it.

We should really send a present.

And another of Triple S' coworkers is pregnant again.

Thank goodness I work with old people.

And that reminds me, I worked 5 days this week to cover for the full time lady. I forgot how much I hate working. It surely doesn't leave enough time for blogging. Or baking. Or my own company.

Perhaps another reason I feel off this week. Not enough blogging. This should be like a tax deductible medical expense.

On the bright side, I am mostly over my cold.

Does anyone have a place to recommend for a small baby present (oh and the presnet idea too)? Triple S' cousin lives abroad, so will be traveling home in a month or so. I was thinking an engraved heart ornament (we have one for our anniversary, which I swear I bought at the engraving place that every mall has - but they didn't have it online). I was also thinking a baby bracelet, but I would want one that could be expanded (ie add links) as the girl gets older. Any recommendations?
