Serenity has been gone longer than she was with us.
Eight weeks after the D&C, I finally had a visit from AF.
Almost 9 weeks after the D&C we received the genetic results. Macadamia was a chromosomally normal little girl. (How do I know that they didn’t just get me?)
The nurse recommended high Folic acid (Folgard), baby aspirin, and prenatals for the next go-around.
Do we risk it and not go for the heparin? I was able to keep a pregnancy before (Serenity). I think that maybe the problem for Macadamia was that it was just too soon after a full term pregnancy. Maybe my body will get it right after a few more cycles. I still want to wait and let my body recoup. I think I have only had 3 cycles in the last 18 months.
Has anyone tried or heard of FolaPro? Instead of taking high folic acid, this is the metabolizable form (5-methyl tetrahydrofolate) that one can use directly if they are MTHFR mutant.

no experience, Ya Chun. Just good thoughts for you. Hang in there. xo
I take extra folic acid and baby aspirin right now. My doc also put me on progesterone right after ovulation because we're sure I miscarried due to an insufficient uterine lining caused by low progesterone. So far the combo has worked? You may wanna ask about getting a progesterone workup?
I have no experience/advice, just support and hope for you.
I tried to email you but it said the address wasn't correct -- the email said --- Ya Chun,
They tested my progesterone 7 days after ovulation to see what levels it was at. Web MD says "7-10 days after ovulation is optimum to get maximum elevation and before it starts to decrease."
Because I had two early miscarriages and there was bleeding around the sac in both cases my doc decided to start me on progesterone. I started taking it 2 days after ovulation, and then baby aspirin and extra folic acid after a positive pregnancy test. The two miscarried babies were chromosomally normal. Because we didn't know why there was bleeding around the sac, my doctor decided baby aspirin would help if there was a clotting issue and progesterone would help make a thicker lining to implant into. Once cycle post d&c i took progesterone after ovulation. We didn't try that cycle. The cycle after that one we used the progesterone and tried to concieve and it worked. I stopped taking progesterone after the first trimester when the placenta takes over production of progesterone.
I hope this helps??
I am thinking if you only had 3 cycles after your full term pregnancy, the uterine lining was probably not up to par.
What can also happen is if you ovulate too late, the lining could start to deteriorate (I've been reading a lot, can you tell?). Since you have carried a pregnancy to term and have had your thyroid levels checked recently (right?) I'd rule out a progesterone problem. It might just not have implanted correctly.
Right now, I am taking B vitamins throughout my cycle and then after I ovulate I start taking baby aspirin and folic acid. But, I think because I am ovulating too late, the lining is not so good anymore, so I need to up my ovulation day. I think I'm going to end up taking Clomid to do this.
hang in there! *hugs*
I forgot to also say, you can rule out progesterone as a problem if your Luteal Phase (the phase after ovulation) is greater than 10 days because that means your progesterone has taken over and is sustained for a long enough time to allow for implantation. If it is shorter than 10 days, you may have a progesterone problem.
Are you charting on fertility friend?
I wish I had advice. I think it's so easy and normal to question our bodies following a stillbirth. It may just be taking your body a bit of time to right itself. Maybe taking a prenatal supplement anyway at the moment isn't a bad thing while your body recovers.
I know I questioned everything when we were TTC again. I also think that it is common to have a miscarriage after a stillbirth, I think I was just lucky. I was certainly expecting it to be the other way round.
I hope that you can come to you own conclusions on this. It's hard when everyone says something different.
I don't have anything useful to say medically speaking, but I am a big believer in following your instincts...if you think you should wait, take things slow, then do that!
Thinking of you and hoping you have had a happy day today =)
I'm so sorry about the loss of your beautiful baby.
I haven't heard of it. I will look it up.
Your medical team is certainly on the ball, Ya Chun. Did any of your blood tests come up suspect after Serenity was born still? Did you have any testing done after the miscarriage? I'm just wondering what has prompted them to have you take these measures - which is great that they are being so on the ball, but I don't know if you mentioned anything being a bit off???
Thinking of you, hon. This is so not easy, especially the miscarriage after stillbirth part. It's only really served to make me crazier, really. I'm sorry it's left you with so many unanswered questions as well - not to say you're crazy. That's me! XO.
no advice, but thinking of and hoping hard for you
I've got no advice either. But I am hoping for the best for you. Hang in there.
I'm only just catching up on your back story Ya Chun. I just wanted to say I'm so sorry. Miscarriage after my stillbirth? Absolutely right now my biggest fear (well there is a bigger one, but I wont go there). Keep on keeping on and know that I'm thinking of you xo
I found you through Hope's Mama... oh there are too too many of us out there... and we are just the ones writing about it.
No thoughts on your question just an offer of virtual support and good thoughts.
xxx
No medical advice, but if it feels right to slow down a bit, let your body recoup, do so.
Thinking of you!!
