Even Steven

All's just honkey dorey here in Ya Chun's world. I don't seem to have too much to say. Can I only sit here and type about bad stuff? Am I such a complainer?

I am very happy for several of you out in the blogosphere: Antigone and Perseus, Azaera (your wait will be over soon), Julia. I am thinking of others: G, and C, and Sue, and k@laky. I am anxious and waiting with still more of you: Janis and Reese and CLC and banbear. I send encouragment to all the rest of you, especially those who have joined us more recently here in dbl.

These last few weeks I have had quite the reading list:

Twilight
Elantris
Dark Knight Returns (a graphic novel- Triple S' reading material on our trip - and I had run out)
The Lives of the Yucatan Mayan Today
A tad of Ralph Waldo Emerson - does anyone still think of 'man' and 'nature' anymore? Seriously - aside from the word choices, I still think about these things. I think I would like to write about them. (that churning sound you hear is my brain).

and since coming back
Mistborn 2
Kurt Vonnegut Armageddon in Retrospect (still working on - but hilarious as all get out and equally depressing)
and today I just started "Taking Charge of your Fertility". Groan. I would much rather be reading about vampires, giants, and talking spheres of light.

It's been a nice escape, but I better get a move on if I want to have a kid before I hit menopause.

Two of the books on that list are by Brandon Sanderson, Elantris and Mistborn. Both books are in the fantasy genre, and both books involve female leads. Interesting. He also writes about his books on his website. During his last read thru, he jots down his impression of each chapter, what he was trying to convey to the reader, what changed from his original version. It is exceedingly interesting to someone (ie, me) who has dreams of someday organizing her thoughts enough to share them with others. Also funny is the explanations of how he creates the magic systems he uses in his books - it's all logical and full of rules. Which, when reading, you can see it in his writing.

So, this is where my brain has been lately. Perhaps it is time to put pencil to paper again. That was the whole idea behind doing my own business - freeing up a bit of time to start writing. Blogging has helped me deal with Serenity's death, and also helped me to start finding a voice. I have a litany of ideas, things I believe. I am also thinking if it is better to present my themes as fiction or non fiction. I have some characters floating about in my head, and did some writing while in Mexico. Does that make the trip a tax write-off?

Thoughts are a-swirling. Trying to make it too crowded in my cranium for db thoughts. Seems to be working.

Pictures of mexican food and mayan ruins forthcoming. I haven't forgotton, yet.

I want to read a new book every month but even that seems daunting to me. I envy you your reading list. I miss my brain:)

Thank you.

Sounds like a very productive trip, in the mental space way. And why the hell not re: tax write off :).

Thinking of you, Ya Chun.
You know, writing is a great outlet, even if it's all bitter stuff. Good way to detox! ;-)
I envy your reading list too. I recently did finish "His Dark Materials" triology. love it!

Ditto on the Pullman series, good stuff. I need to get back to reading this year. Thank you for reminding me :)

Much love to you hun, I know Feb is coming, hopefully for us both. Until then, we get healthy, physically, mentally - reading, writing or spewing. Whatever it takes.

You absolutely should put pen to paper, or fingers to keys as it were. I find writing to be so cathartic. I recently finished the Twilight series, and was surprised that I actually liked it quite a bit.

Thanks.

That's an ambitious reading list. I am trying to read An Unfinished Life, which is a bio of JFK. It's good, but just hard to get through. I can't even think about what I will read next.
